Chef John Slattery makes the trip to Huntington’s Four Main Street a gastronomic delight

Years ago, when he was living in Middlefield and commuting to work in Southwick as executive chef for the Ranch Grille, John Slattery routinely drove through downtown Huntington, right past the restaurant he would eventually come to own.

“I never really noticed it,” he tells me as we sit in Four Main Street, the restaurant, bar and grill he now operates with his wife, Andrea Slattery. His comment seems fitting for a business whose website, at press time, was being hosted by, which provides tourist information for several towns in Western Massachusetts that somehow appear almost hidden. But as is so often the case, those places that at first seem tucked away are the ones most worth exploring.
